The History of St Johns:

St John’s Methodist Church came into being when four congregations came together in 1968.  After the disappointment of the Local Authority not fulfilling its promise to provide a piece of land on Church Street, the new church began meeting in the former Brook Street Church premises.  The first services were held on Palm Sunday April 7th in what is now the main hall.  The new Church extension was built and opened on April 14th 1973.  Since then there have been numerous alterations and major refurbishments which have resulted in the modern, multi-purpose Worship Area that we have today.

From the very onset of its life, St John’s has been blessed with having many committed and devoted members and that still remains so today.  There has been a Methodist presence and church in Sutton-in-Ashfield since 1807 and St John’s stands in that line of heritage of worship, witness and service to the community.
